Saturday 26th June 2010 A Ride to Etna
For some, merely the thought of taking on a gruelling journey, covering 9 different countries in just 3 days and across 1500 miles of open road with nothing but a motorbike to keep you warm until you reach one of Europe’s most active volcanoes, would be just enough to send you back to watching re-runs of Chips and enjoying life in the fast lane from the comfort of your own living room.
But we didn’t let a little challenge like that put us off! We are Fraser Band and Steve Pirie and in 2010 we’ve pledged to raise some serious cash for Young Carers combining our passion for motorcycling with our commitment to fundraising for the charity.
This year a group from PKAVS, which help and support Young Carers locally, are taking on the challenge of a 35km trek up the mighty Mount Etna and this inspired us to get involved.
Our target is to reach Mount Etna and raise OVER £10,000 for them. Can you help us do it? We'll be in St John's Shopping Centre on Saturday 26th June raising money for PKAVs.... pop in and make a donation.

Have your say on how this area should develop:
THE TAYplan Main Issues Report consultation period commenced as of April 12th 2010 and will run for 12 weeks, ending on July 2nd 2010.
TAYplan, the Strategic Development Planning Authority, was set up in 2008 to create a strategy for major building work in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and North/East Fife.
The strategy, which will replace existing council structure plans when it is approved by Scottish Ministers, will set out a framework for growth in the Dundee City Region.
The TAYplan Main Issues Report seeks to ensure participation of all areas of interest including the general public, business, key organisations, community groups, private and public sector groups.
Cllr Will Dawson, who chairs the TAYplan joint committee said: “This is a key stage in the production of the strategic land use planning document. This is the main stage where everyone with an interest can get involved and give us their views on what they think the key issues are and on the strategic options for where much of the new development should be.
The Main Issues Report considers the big changes that will shape the next 20 years of our lives. It focuses on the key issues and seeks views on these. This is the most important stage for people to make their views known”.

25th April 2010 Zero Waste Recycle Roadshow
The Zero Waste recycling campaign works in partnership with local authorities and grocers to educate the public on how they can do their bit in their local area to help reduce waste. Our 10 foot blue elephant will be visiting Perth on Sunday 25th April to remind local people to recycle more items, more often.
Scotland has moved from being a country almost wholly dependent on landfill disposal of waste to one where nearly 36 per cent of all municipal waste is recycled. The total amount of waste has reduced from 10.9 million tonnes to 7.4 million tonnes and European Union landfill diversion targets were met 18 months early.
The Scottish Government aims to further improve its environment credentials by adopting a new goal: Zero Waste through a new Zero Waste plan. Zero Waste does not mean that waste disappears instead it means eliminating the unnecessary use of raw materials, sustainable design, recovering value from products at the end of their lives, reusing and recycling according to the waste hierarchy. To achieve this the Zero Waste plan will help business and local authorities treat waste as a resource and not as an end product in itself.
Pop into St John's Shopping Centre and speak to us about how you can do your bit to reduce waste.
