St John’s Shopping Centre Raises Over £1000 in First Weekend 09 March 2009
Getting their Comic Relief fundraising campaign off to a whopping start, the team at St John’s Shopping Centre, Perth raised over £1000 through a series of fundraising activities this weekend. Launching a week of fundraising activities visitors to the shopping centre got into the spirit of Red Nose Day, which included a visit by the pupils of Oakbank Primary School to put up their artwork in the Funny Collage, a chainsaw carving of Lenny Henry by championship carver Peter Bowsher and entertainment from Perth College’s Rhythm Wave. Every penny raised goes to Comic Relief to help transform lives across Africa and the UK, and the organisers are building up to a major finale this coming Friday on Red Nose Day 2009. This year St John’s Shopping Centre are hoping to hit their £2500 target for their week’s activities and, after just two days, are almost half way there. They are urging visitors to the shopping centre this week to get involved, whether by purchasing a raffle ticket, or guessing how many balls are in the two cars, donated for the week by OpenRoadHire and The Wee Spray Shop. Other fundraising activities across the week include a wordsearch competition, online giving, face painting, crazy hairstyles and Red Nose muffins. Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager commented, “The atmosphere in the mall this weekend was positively carnival like – with visitors wearing their red noses, balloons galore and lots and lots of entertainment. We’re working up to raise some serious cash for Red Nose Day so I urge everyone to get involved. Every penny counts.” For further information about the fundraising activities, visit the Red Nose Day shop in the South Street Mall which will be open every day, running daily from 11am – 4pm.
