With figures announced earlier this week by VisitBritain indicating more people than ever will be holidaying in the UK this summer, the thoughts of getting on a flight to somewhere hot and sunny is increasingly a mere fancy for many of us.

Recognising this would be the case, St John’s Shopping Centre in Perth, are planning to bring a touch of Disney to Scotland this week with the launch of their “An Ice Escape” campaign this Saturday, 4th July in Perth.

The campaign kicks off with a 4th July Family Fun Day which includes giveaways, balloons, chocolates, free face painting and some riotous cheering up by the Scottish Cheerleading Squad. The Courier will be running a readers competition alongside the campaign for one lucky local family to win a holiday to Disneyland Resort Paris later this year.

The campaign, which is run in conjunction with the Courier and Thomson Holidays, asks people to guess how long it will take Mickey Mouse toys, frozen into a large block of ice, to melt. Voting starts this coming Monday, 6th July, and the “Melting Mickey” will arrive in St John’s Shopping Centre, in time for the centre opening on Saturday 11th July. The whole event will be broadcast live on the web via St John’s Shopping Centre’s website for those who want to check if their guess was right!

Tricia Fox, marketing agent for St John’s Shopping Centre said, “We recognised that many people will be spending their summer vacation at home this year so wanted to run a promotion that gave them an opportunity to enjoy themselves right on their own door step, as well as the opportunity to escape from it all with a big family holiday prize. We are hoping that the campaign will be popular with local families and that they’ll visit the shopping centre to pick up some of that Disney cheer.”
