Free Perth Festival Fringe Concerts to Launch Late Night Shopping
15 May 2008St John’s Shopping Centre, Perth has announced a series of free “fringe” Perthshire Festival of the Arts concerts to celebrate the launch of its late night shopping which will start on Thursday 22nd May, the same night as the launch of this year’s Perth Festival of the Arts. The free concerts will be held in the shopping centre between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday 22nd May and will include performances from: Chansons, who will perform their programme outside The Perfume Shop in the South Street Mall. Ceroc Dancers, who will perform their lively dance routines (and encouraging members of the public to join in) outside HMV in the King Edward Street Mall. The programme has been designed to reflect Perthshire Festival of the Arts broad repertoire, using local groups to entertain festival visitors to the city as well as complement Perth’s other festival activities. Siobhan McConnell, manager of St John’s Shopping Centre, said “We felt this was a fantastic opportunity for St John’s Shopping Centre to get really involved in this year’s festival, and offer local residents the opportunity to participate in the festival in a new and innovative way. Visitors can watch the dancing over a leisurely coffee and muffin, or hear one of Perthshire’s most celebrated choirs sing. There’s something for everyone.” Sandra Ralston, organiser of Perth Fetsival of the Arts commented, “This is a real boost to this year’s festival programme. We strongly encourage local retailers to get into the spirit of the Perth Festival of the Arts with their window displays, St John’s Shopping Centre is taking that to the next level by offering their visitors free concerts. Many people travel to Perth Festival of the Arts concerts from outside of Perth so this offers them a great opportunity to make a day of it, indulge in a little shopping, and some entertainment before settling in for the opening concert.” For further information about the free concerts at St John’s Shopping Centre please log on to www.stjshopping.co.uk -- ENDS --
