Pop into Perth: Are you Perth’s Best Young Snapper?
05 June 2008St John’s Shopping Centre is issuing a call to action to all budding young photographers to take part in their latest competition, run in conjunction with Perth Museum and Art Gallery, Pop into Perth: Now and Then which starts Saturday 7th June and runs until Sunday 15th June. Laying down the gauntlet, they are asking local young photographers to choose their favourite Perth city centre shop fronts and to provide two photographs, one from the past and one from the present. The older photograph could have been taken by a member of the family or sourced from the library or newspaper archives, but the modern image must be their own work. The best photographic entries will be shortlisted and judged by our prestigious panel of photographic experts and one lucky winner will receive a state of the art Samsung i85 Digital Camera worth £200 for their winning efforts. For inspiration, St John’s Shopping Centre is also urging Perth’s budding paparazzi to visit Perth Museum and Art Gallery’s “House to Mouse” exhibition which is currently showing – a fantastic opportunity to get a real insight into just how much times have changed in Perth’s city centre. Based on the story of shopping for food and clothes in Perth, House to Mouse charts the development of shops from the medieval stall to the glass fronted supermarket and showcases collections from well-known local businesses such as MacFisheries on the High Street and McEwens in St John Street. Siobhan McConnell, manager of St John’s Shopping Centre, said “Perth city centre is steeped in historic buildings making it a perfect subject for enthusiastic photographers. It’s an exciting time for Perth’s shopping area with so many new retail developments in the pipeline that it seemed a fitting tribute to ask our best young photographers to capture the essence of Perth in 2008.” For further information about the competition at St John’s Shopping Centre please log on to www.stjshopping.co.uk and click on Competitions.
