It’s the Thought that Counts: St John’s Shopping Centre’s Santa to Go Green
10 November 2008As retail gears up for a busy festive period, St John’s Shopping Centre, Perth, has announced that this Christmas they will be getting back to basics with none other than a GREEN SANTA! But rather than paying homage to the traditional red dress of Father Christmas the shopping centre, which is situated right at the heart of Perth, is hoping that Green Santa will be spreading the seasonal word that, when it comes to our future, we can all do our bit by being GREEN. Due to make his grand arrival at St John’s Shopping Centre by rickshaw, a sustainable form of transport, on Saturday 15th November at midday, Santa will be accompanied by his Greenland friends: The Snow Queen and other characters from Perth Theatre’s Christmas show. Santa commented, “We can all make a difference to the future of the planet just by changing the way we live. I’ve recently started separating and recycling my household waste, as have a lot of people in Perth & Kinross, and this year I wanted to arrive at the shopping centre in a form of transport that doesn’t cause pollution.” “I really hope that all the children who come to visit me this year will help me spread the Christmas message: that it really is time to give something back.” He said. Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager added, “When Santa told us he wanted to go green, we asked him how we could help. This year our Christmas lights are all LED and therefore use much less energy than traditional Christmas lights. We’re delighted to be helping Santa in his mission to make the world a better place to live. We hope all the children in Perthshire can help him carry his message forward.” Perthshire families are encouraged to show their support by joining Santa’s parade which starts from Horsecross at 11.30am on Saturday 15th November and will travel up Perth High Street to the St John’s Shopping Centre where there will be a grand opening of Santa’s Greenland Grotto at 12pm.
